SKYLAR CAMPBELL

Skylar was born in Laguna Beach, California and trained with Victor and Tatiana Kasatsky and mentor and coach David Allan in Orange County, California. Mr. Campbell joined The National Ballet of Canada in 2009 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2018. Recently, Skylar Joined the Houston Ballet as principal dancer in 2022. Skylar has worked with world renowned dance makers including; Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, John Neumeier, James Kudelka, Ronald Hynd, Sir Peter Wright, William Forsythe, Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor, Alex Ekman, Kevin O’day, Will Tuckett, Julia Adam, David Allan, Guillaume Cote and Robert Binet. He has performed dozens of principal roles and leading roles in some of the world’s most prestigious stages around the world such as; Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Stanislavsky Theatre, Mariinsky-2, Staatsoper-Hamburg, David H. Koch Theatre, Kennedy Center, War Memorial Opera House San Francisco, Los Angles Music Centre, and Print Works, London. He was a finalist at the Prix de Lausanne in 2009 and awarded Dance Magazines "Top 25 to Watch" in 2015. Skylar is also the Director/Founder of Skylar Campbell Dance Collective; a nonprofit aiming to unite and collaborate with artists from across North America.

ZOE LUCICH

Zoe Lucich was born in Marin County, California. Her early training was at the Marin Ballet School. She then was accepted into the San Francisco Ballet School under the direction of Patrick Armand and graduated as a Trainee before joining the Houston Ballet in 2021 where she is currently dancing in the Corps de Ballet. She has danced in works by Helgi Tomasson, Stanton Welch, Justin Peck, Jiri Kylian, Arthiur Pita, Cathy Marston,  Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Trey Mcintyre, John Neumeier, to name a few. Zoe also dances annually in Julia Adam Dance’s summer project in Sonoma County. She is excited to be a part of Skylar Campbell’s Dance Collective.

CHELSY MEISS

Chelsy Meiss was born in Melbourne, Australia. Ms. Meiss trained with Karen Foster and Thelma Williams upon graduating with an Advance Diploma in Dance from The Australian Ballet School. Ms. Meiss danced with The San Diego Ballet for three seasons before joining The National Ballet of Canada. Her repertoire includes leading roles in works by James Kudelka, John Neumeier, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Crystal Pite, Wayne McGregor, Robert Binet and other notable choreographers. Ms. Meiss was part of the creation of Alexei Ratmansky’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and Guillaume Cote’s ‘Being and Nothingness’.

MELODY MENNITE

Melody Mennite is Principal ballerina with Houston Ballet. She has toured internationally to perform the classics as well as contemporary work in dance. Some of her classical Principal roles include Odette/Odile, Aurora, Kitri, Sugar Plum Fairy and Clara in The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Manon, Juliet, The Sylph in Bournanville’s La Sylphide, Nikya in La Bayadere, Ciao Ciao San in Madame Butterfly, Marie in the ballet Marie, Tatiana and Olga in Onegin, Stephanie and Mary Vetsera in Meyerling, Swanhilda in Coppelia, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, and Lise in La Fille mal Gardee. Melody’s most recent international appearance was in the role of Juliet for the Houston Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet tour to Melbourne, Australia. During Melody’s professional career she has also originated roles in new classical and contemporary productions by choreographers Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Stanton Welch, Ben Stevenson, Christopher Bruce, Jorma Elo, Cathy Marston, Paul Taylor, Aszure Barton, Nicole Fonte, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Olivier Wevers, Oliver Halkowich, Jane Weiner, and Garret Smith as well as in her dual role as dancer/choreographer for several films. Melody enjoys all forms of dance and has extensive training and experience with styles rooted in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. She is passionate about both learning and teaching what she has learned with others. Ms. Mennite has graced the cover of both Dance Magazine and Dance Europe and is celebrated as the Audrey Hepburn of ballet due to her dynamic acting and a predisposition for comedic roles. As an actor Melody has achieved two award winning performances in film and continues to build this part of her resume. Also from a musical family Ms. Mennite was singing onstage before she ever started training in dance. She has been professionally recorded and released and has performed leading singing roles in regional productions of both West Side Story and Oklahoma. Melody’s choreography has been featured on film, in music videos, and on ballet stages throughout the United States. In the last ten years she has been commissioned to create thirteen separate works nationally. Her hobbies include spending time in the outdoors, spending time with her son and two dogs, singing/making music, reading, writing, and practicing new ways to make art.

JACLYN OAKLEY

Jaclyn Oakley, was born in Winston-Salem NC and trained at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Boston Ballet, The Royal Danish Ballet, and at summer sessions with The School of American Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Jaclyn joined the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto, Canada as an Apprentice in 2009 and was a member of the Corp de Ballet from 2010-2022, dancing an immense range of roles in the company’s repertoire, including ballets by John Cranko, August Bournonville, James Kudelka, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexi Ratmansky, John Neumeier, Crystal Pite, Wayne Mcgregor, Justin Peck,  George Balanchine and Jerome Robins, among many others.  Her most featured roles include the Sweet Fairy in Rudolph Nureyev’s The Sleeping Beauty, Tall Swans in James Kudelka’s Swan Lake, and the Tall Woman in Jerome Robins Elite Syncopations. After proudly celebrating 13 years with the National Ballet of Canada, Jaclyn joined the Houston Ballet in 2022. Jaclyn has performed in theatres across the globe from Moscow, Paris, Hamburg, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC, to Tokyo and beyond. She finds it so fulfilling to bring her extensive experience and joy of sharing art to the Skylar Campbell Dance Collective, where she dances and supports the non profit as Artistic Coordinator as well. 

GIAN CARLO PEREZ

Gian Carlo Perez, a First Soloist at the Houston Ballet, brings a wealth of experience from his early training in Havana, Cuba, and his tenure with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and The Washington Ballet. His extensive repertoire includes iconic roles such as Oberon in Sir Frederick Ashton’s The Dream, Apollo in George Balanchine's Apollo, and  Othello, among others. Gian Carlo's career has been marked by a dedication to development roles, allowing him to showcase his versatility on stage. His notable performance in George Balanchine's Themes and Variations at The Washington Ballet stands out as a defining moment, reflecting his unwavering focus and commitment to excellence. BEN RUDISIN

Ben Rudisin was born in Woodbridge, VA and trained at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Houston Ballet II. He joined the National Ballet of Canada in 2013 as an Apprentice and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2021. His repertoire includes leading roles in works by Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, John Neumeier, Crystal Pite, and other notable choreographers. 

Jack Wolff

Jack Wolff joined Houston Ballet in 2018, and is currently a Demi Soloist. Originally from Houston, Wolff started his training at Precision Dance Academy, Houston METtoos, and Houston Ballet Summer Intensives. In 2015, he moved to NYC to train at American Ballet Theatre’s JKO School on full scholarship. While living in NYC, Wolff was awarded YoungArts winner in Tap, represented the JKO School at ABT at Prix de Lausanne, and at 16 years old made his professional debut in Bulgaria as a guest artist with iMEE: a company under the direction of Spencer Gavin Hering and Andrea Dawn Shelley. Since being in the company at Houston Ballet, he has worked with respected choreographers such as Arthur Pita, Justin Peck, Azure Barton, Disha Zhang, and Trey McIntyre. He has also been featured in many works of Stanton Welch’s. Some of his memorable roles include Peter in Trey McIntyre’s Peter Pan, Benvolio in Stanton Welch’s Romeo and Juliet, and the Prince Welch’s Cinderella. Jack Wolff also has a passion for choreography, and has created works for Houston Ballet II, Houston Ballet main company, Philadelphia Ballet II, and Houston Contemporary.

CHAE EUN YANG

Chae Eun Yang was born in Seoul, Korea, and trained at the Sunhwa Arts School and Korea national University of Arts, before joining Houston Ballet in 2013. In 2017 Chae Eun joined National Ballet of Canada for a short time before returning to Houston Ballet where she continues to dance. Prior to joining Houston Ballet she was awarded 1st Prize at Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, 2nd Prize at Varna International Ballet Competition, 1st Prize at Tanz Olymp Berlin, and. Finalist at Prix de Lausanne. During her time dancing professionally Chae Eun has danced the works of some of the most renowned choreographers in the world including but not limited to; Jiri Kylian, John Neumeier, Stanton Welch, Kenneth Macmillan, Crystal Pite, Rudolf Nureyev, William Forsyth and many more.

ALEXEI RATMANSKY

Alexei Ratmansky was born in St. Petersburg and trained at the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow.  

His performing career included positions as principal dancer with Ukrainian National Ballet, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Royal Danish Ballet.  He has choreographed ballets for the Mariinsky Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, The Australian Ballet, Kiev Ballet and the State Ballet of Georgia, as well as for Nina Ananiashvili, Diana Vishneva and Mikhail Baryshnikov.  His 1998 work, Dreams of Japan, earned a prestigious Golden Mask Award by the Theatre Union of Russia.  In 2005, he was awarded the Benois de la Danse prize for his choreography of Anna Karenina for the Royal Danish Ballet.  He was made Knight of Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 2001.  He won his second Benois de la Danse for Shostakovich Trilogy in 2014.

Ratmansky was named artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet in January 2004. For the Bolshoi Ballet, he choreographed full-length productions of The Bright Stream (2003) and The Bolt (2005) and re-staged Le Corsaire (2007) and the Soviet-era Flames of Paris (2008). Under Ratmansky’s direction, the Bolshoi Ballet was named “Best Foreign Company” in 2005 and 2007 by The Critics’ Circle in London, and he received a Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for The Bright Stream in 2006 and Shostakovich Trilogy in 2020. In 2007, he won a Golden Mask Award for Best Choreographer for his production of Jeu de Cartes for the Bolshoi Ballet. In 2009, Ratmansky choreographed new dances for the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Aida. Ratmansky joined American Ballet Theatre as Artist in Residence in January 2009.

For American Ballet Theatre, Ratmansky choreographed On the Dnieper (2009), Seven Sonatas (2009), Waltz Masquerade, a ballet honoring Nina Ananiashvili’s final season (2009), The Nutcracker (2010), Dumbarton (2011), Firebird and Symphony #9 (2012), Chamber Symphony, Piano Concerto #1 and The Tempest (2013), The Sleeping Beauty (2015), Serenade after Plato’s Symposium (2016), Songs of Bukovina (2017), Whipped Cream (2017), Harlequinade (2018), The Seasons (2019), Of Love and Rage (2020) and Bernstein in a Bubble (2021). 

Ratmansky was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow for 2013.

GUILLAUME COTE C.Q.

Guillaume Côté is a native of Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec. He studied at Canada’s National Ballet School and joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1999. He quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2004.

Since then, Mr. Côté has danced most of the major classical roles with The National Ballet of Canada and has been the leading male figure of the company. He has had several lead roles created on him notably the role of Romeo in Alexei Ratmansky’s new Romeo and Juliet, Prince Charming in James Kudelka’s Cinderella, and the role of Gene Kelly in Derek Deane’s production of Strictly Gershwin, for the English National Ballet. He has also worked closely with such dance icon as Roland Petit, John Neumeier, William Forsythe, Christopher Wheeldon and Crystal Pite.

As a guest artist, Mr. Côté has danced with The Royal Ballet, Bolshoi Theatre, American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Teatro alla Scala, English National Ballet, the Mikhailosky Theater of St-Petersburg, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Berlin’s Staatsoper, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Stuttgart Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, the Alberta Ballet, Verona Opera and the South African Ballet Theater. Mr. Côté has also performed in numerous international galas.

In 2013, in addition to his position as a Principal Dancer, Mr. Côté assumed the role of Choreographic Associate with The National Ballet of Canada and today eight of his works are part of the company’s repertoire. In 2012, his work Enkeli won the Audience Choice Award for Best Choreography at The Tenth International Competition for The Erik Bruhn Prize. That same year, his work for ProArteDanza, Fractals: a pattern of chaos, was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Choreography. In 2013, his work Being and Nothingness entered The National Ballet of Canada’s repertoire and after its initial success, returned in 2015 and again in 2019 during an international tour ending in Russia. Mr. Côté’s first full-length ballet, Le Petit Prince, was presented during the National Ballet’s 2016 season in front of sold-out houses. In 2017, Mr. Côté was chosen to participate in the landmark National Arts Centre Commission Encount3rs performing together with the National Arts Centre Orchestra. In June of 2018, Mr. Côté created in collaboration with the famed Director Robert Lepage, Frame by Frame, a new full-length evening presented at the Four Seasons Centre in Toronto.

In 2021, Guillaume Côté founded his own company Côté Danse focused on the multidisciplinary creation of innovative works with the mission of making dance seen and experienced differently. He first creates Crypto, a full-evening work presented on a national tour of 20 performances. In the summer of 2021, he created X(Dix), presented on a tour of 28 performances in 20 cities including Fall for Dance in New York. The work was also filmed for the Fall for Dance North Festival in Toronto and is still presented on the digital art platform Marquee TV. Also in 2021, he created Touch, an immersive multidisciplinary work that was presented 83 times to sold-out houses. In 2023, he co-created Hamlet with Robert Lepage and the work is currently touring internationally.

In 2011, Mr. Côté was awarded “La médaille de l’Assemblée Nationale du Québec” for his work in the arts. In September 2014, Mr. Côté was named the Artistic Director of the Festival des Arts de Saint Sauveur, the largest summer dance festival in the country. In 2021, Mr. Côté was appointed a Chevalier de l’Ordre national du Québec, the highest distinction given by the government of Quebec.

KRISTINA PAULIN

Kristina Paulin is a Slovak choreographer and dancer who has spent the majority of her professional life in Germany. This began in John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet where she worked for over 10 years performing some of Neumeier's most iconic ballets as well as gaining experience as an original cast member for numerous new creations that were premiered around the world. During this time, Kristina discovered a passion for choreography and began to pursue this path with an absolute passion, culminating in her ultimate decision to leave the Hamburg Ballet in 2021 in order to be able to devote herself to choreography full time. She uses a recognisable, narrative driven dance language which is influenced by both classical and contemporary elements. Kristina’s inspiration is drawn from a diverse variety of literature, music and biographical work. However, her greatest creative source is the dancers themselves and the creative process in the studio. As of late 2023, Kristina Paulin has been named as the designated associate artistic director and house choreographer of the renowned Ballet Karlsruhe (Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe) and will officially assume her duties in the third quarter of 2024. Beside this, she aspires to further develop her artistic language and to continue bringing her ballet's to the world's stages.

JULIA ADAM

Julia Adam trained at the National Ballet School in Toronto, and upon graduation in 1983, spent five years with the National Ballet of Canada. She then joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1988, was promoted to Principal dancer in 1996 and was known for her lyricism, musicality and broad theatrical range. Upon retiring from the stage in 2002, Ms. Adam quickly gained recognition as one of the dance world’s rising talents in choreography. Ms. Adam has been featured in the New York Times, SF Chronicle, and Dance Magazine to name a few. She received the Isadora Duncan Award for Choreography, and currently directs her own dance company, Julia Adam Dance, which she co founded with her husband Aaron Lucich over a decade ago. Ms. Adam has over 80 works in her repetoire that have been performed nationally and internationally by companies like the San Francisco Ballet, the Houston Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Ballet Met, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet Memphis, Oregon Ballet theater, Arizona Ballet and more. Her works have been seen on stages all over the world including the Palais Garnier in Paris, Covent Garden in London, New York’s City Center, San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House, Houston’s Wortham Center for the Performing Arts and at the Four Seasons Center for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Julia continues to create new works across the country while residing in the Bay Area and is delighted to contribute a new work to Skylar Campbell’s Dance Collective.

Robert Binet

Robert Binet is a choreographer and has created works for The National Ballet of Canada, The Royal Ballet, The New York City Ballet and more. Binet is currently Choreographic Associate and Director of Artist Development Programmes with The National Ballet of Canada where he has created 16 works, including The Dreamers Ever Leave You, an immersive ballet first performed at The Art Gallery of Ontario and later toured within Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, and the original choreography for Karen Kain’s Swan Lake. Binet’s most recent creation was Dark with Excessive Bright for The Royal Ballet which was hailed as ‘intoxicating’ by The Times. Binet created the National Ballet’s CreativAction program which offers choreographic development opportunities to Canadian choreographers and shares resources with the local dance community, and Sharing the Stage which builds new audiences for dance in Toronto. In 2023, Binet was the Choreographic Mentor at the Venice Biennale and guest curator for the Dance: Made in Canada festival. In the same year, Binet received the Sandra Faire Next Generation Award from Dance Collection Danse, awarded to an individual under 40 who is making a significant impact on dance in Canada.

CONNOR WALSH

Originally from the DMV area, Connor Walsh began his training under the direction of his mother Constance Walsh. He has trained at The Kirov Academy of Ballet, The Harid Conservatory, and Houston Ballets Ben Stevensons Academy. In 2004 Walsh joined the Houston Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet and was quickly promoted to soloist in 2006 and then to Principal in 2007. In his nearly 20 years with Houston Ballet Walsh has danced the full range of classical and contemporary repertoire, as well as originating leading roles in countless world premiers. Connor has also performed as a guest artist with numerous companies including Australian Ballet, Norwegian Ballet, Washington Ballet, Teatro Colon, and New National Theater theater in Tokyo. In recent years Walsh has expanded his reach into teaching, coaching and choreographing.

 MUSICIANS

Tonya Burton

Violist, Tonya Burton enjoys a diverse career of both solo and ensemble playing. She recently won third place in the 2023 American Prize for Instrumental Soloists, ‘Best Classical Artist’ in the D.C. Wammie awards, and a track from her solo album won a 2022 Wammie award for ‘Best Classical Song.’ She has performed in major venues across the United States, Canada, China, Switzerland and Italy. 

 An artistic leader, Burton is a core member of the Kinetic Ensemble, both performing and programming for the Houston based string orchestra known for showcasing diverse, under-represented and newly composed classical music. Kinetic’s recent album debuted as number one on the Billboard Traditional Classical Albums chart in 2023. She also curates and performs with the Monarch Chamber Players, a group dedicated to making high-quality chamber music accessible through free concerts in unique venues across the Houston area. She frequently performs with Musiqa, Aperio, Houston Symphony, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, and is an Affiliate Artist with the Apollo Chamber Players. 

Passionate about community engagement, Burton can be found performing at local retirement homes, schools, libraries and hospitals. She currently serves as the Retirement Coordinator for Monarch Chamber Players, and was the Artist in Residence for the Collington Community from 2020-2021. She has worked with Vijay Gupta’s Street Symphony, serving the Skid Row community of Los Angeles and has also directed City Music Kidz, a music program for low-income families in Cleveland. 

Burton performs annually at the Caroga Lake Music Festival. Prior summers have been at esteemed festivals such as the Perlman Music Program, Talis Festival in Saas-Fee, Switzerland and Heifetz International Music Institute. She has collaborated with renowned artists including Donald Weilerstein, Jeffrey Irvine, Katherine Murdock, Mark Kosower, Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Richie Hawley and Fabio Di Càsola.

 A sought-after educator and clinician, Burton has given masterclasses for Corpus Christi A&M, Kansas State University, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the Houston Viola Society. Burton currently serves on faculty at Sam Houston State University and maintains a thriving home studio. She received a Master’s in Music from Rice University studying with James Dunham, a Bachelor’s of Music from Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Jeffrey Irvine, and served as Katherine Murdock’s Teaching Assistant while working on her Doctorate at the University of Maryland. 

Yvonne Chen

Taiwanese-American pianist Yvonne Chen performs across the US as a solo recitalist and a chamber musician. Recent collaborators and presenters include Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, WindSync, MUSIQA, Performing Arts Houston, Music in Context, DACAMERA, and Houston Chamber Choir. In Houston, upon receiving the 2017 Presser Graduate Music Award at Rice University, she co-founded Loop38, whose concerts have been featured in Houstonia Magazine, Houston CityBook, Arts and Culture TX, and the Houston Chronicle.

Originally from the Washington, DC area, Chen received degrees in piano performance from the Juilliard School and graduated with a doctoral degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music in December 2019. Chen has recently formed Pipe and Key, a piano-organ duo with organist Yuri McCoy, and has been on the piano faculty of St. John's School since 2017.
